Hello everyone, this is my first post here, received a pocket watch from my grandfather that no longer works. I have taken it to several watch repair shops and no one can fix it because of how old it is. We found it was made around 1825 and it is either Swiss or French made, If you could help me identify the watch and point me in the direction of a repair company that is trustworthy I would GREATLY appreciate it! I also have no idea the value of it.. thank you! (everything is gold)

The inside is all engraved and on the inside of the back piece there are a few small marks, signatures and some stamped numbers. I need a high def pic to show it.
There are snaked circling around the tuning holes with musical notes underneath it! IMG_20140124_162658_zpsa7c86b30.webp IMG_20140124_162813_zpsa26c8714.webp IMG_20140124_162718_zps7e34d7c9.webp IMG_20140124_163106_zps65de7325.webp IMG_20140124_162844_zps757b349a.webp

a good watch maker would be able to fix it and clean it , most likely the balance staff is broken on the pivots , or a main spring

Forst of all, that is a musical strike watch. These are quite rare and valuable. Make sure that only a respected and qualified watchmaker is allowed to work on it. he number "1886" is NOT the date. This watch is much older than this. It also appears that this watch originally had a "pair case", meaning a secondary case that it fit into. Not sure, but I believe so.

I strongly suggest that you visit this site, National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors Message Board

to find out more of its value, and i am sure that someone there can point you in the right direction of finding a qualified watchmaker to repair this. This would be a great place to post your photos, ans well as asking your questions. Not saying that you can't find out info here on this site, but the NAWCC specializes in old clocks and watches. If you would, please post any and all info you get here, for all to read.

I think it's dated correct being made in the first half of the 19th century. To me it looks like the type watches made in London of that time. Being a gold case it will have some good value, maybe $500.00 as it sits now unrepaired. I'd hit some of the watch and time piece forums out there on the web see what some of those folks say you have and who could maybe fix it?. I have an earlier print of this book some place in my house and you can almost always find it in any large book store and its been a big help in my buying and selling of old watches.

Wow! It is a musical strike watch or repeater complication of some kind.(good eye) This thing needs to be looked over by some experts as it could very well be worth in the 4 figures and maybe top those digits pending the rarity and maker. Getting advice from the folks at NAWCC I'd say is a must.
