Hi everyone, im new to the hobby and this site. I found this while out this weekend with my detector. Can anyone help with identification?
It was found in a heavily wooded area in a park in Brooklyn.
Thanks,

Welcome to the site. Unfortunately you will find hundreds if not thousands of pieces of metal that are very hard if not impossible to figure out what they were used for or what they came off of. This is probably a very good example. A car part, a tractor part, a heavy equipment part, a part to a home. I think this is one of them.

Good luck out there.

I'll take a guess, maybe a hinge to a door.

Thanks for taking a look.

Perhaps a couple different views will help?

That's a "flinger"! Something you "fling" into the woods after you find it.

hogge I agree with you with the exception I would bring it home and put it in my can slaw - pull tabs - beaver tails & square tabs bucket. Hey I might a little loose change off of the scrap metal.

lmao...thx again

It kind of looks like a plate that goes in the door behind the sheet metal in an older car. To try to explain this:laughing7:.......as an example..Where the door hinge bolts go through the door sheet metal. A piece like that would have tabs(?) holding it in place. The bolts go through into the plate. It moved a little between the tabs for adjustment....

It's a way, way, out there guess and you may never know what it is...The above is what came to mind when I saw the pic!:laughing7:

Ok, thanks again to all. I "flung" it in the recycling bin.
I also got hits on my detector with these 2 pieces and a 1990 dime. They were all in bad shape my I cleaned them up as best as I could.20160315_141053.webp20160315_135102.webp20160315_140419.webp

It looks like it could be a link of some sort, maybe a conveyor of sorts with metal or belt attached to the three rivets/posts.:dontknow:
Just my SWAG.:notworthy:
