Help identifying

I went on a small metal detecting adventure today. The area has thousands of small pottery sherds eveeywhere. I found a lot of stuff but I’m still very new to metal detecting. The area is uninhabited but I believe it definitely was at one time. The revolutionary war and the civil war both had occurrences in the surrounding areas.

What part of the Carolina's?

Nice older stuff. What appears to be a lock cover marked VR...the VR stands for Victoria Regina, aka Queen Victoria. She was born in 1819, took over as Queen in 1837.

What is stamped onto that piece of flattened metal? I can make out "New York".

What do the sherds look like? Like the blue edged piece?

Bottom right are common and in use today. Pin clips, used in such things as tractor draw bars and even recreational vehicle towing bars.

In response to JT. I live in Lancaster/waxhaw on the state line. All of my findings are from the Lancaster kershaw line near the wateree/Catawba not far from Liberty Hill. The pottery sherds are in abundance everywhere. You can’t walk five feet without seeing a few pieces here and there. I believe they are colonial era. There were a couple of plantations nearby. I’ve found a couple of very very old bricks. There was also a couple of Indian villages in the area. I’ll have to look at the piece with New York on it again. I attached a picture to give you an idea of the land.

It is a clip "for a pin ". It keeps the pin from falling out.

Have you taken a bottle probe to the area? you might be on or near a dump site. The bottle probe will help you find ground that has been disturbed.

I remember them being used on tractor draw bars, but they are also used to secure the "pull pin" in towing bars for pulling vehicles being recreational vehicles.

I need to get a bottle probe. On old topography maps I’ve noticed in the area “Jeep trail”. I’m sure there has been some off-roading there. There are a lot of old trails. In my research I’ve found that very old existing trails usually follow along the ridge lines of the hills to avoid creek crossings. I’ve found a couple of these. I believe settlers traveled through the area to ship cotton and other goods down river to Charleston. I’m right below great falls Which is where planters would ship their goods. Kingsbury ferry. Also rocky mount where a couple of revolutionary battles were fought and during Sherman’s March they struggled to cross the river in the area due to heavy floods. So I believe it’s a promising area. I’m always going alone so it’ll take me some time to dial in on better areas. The strangest thing is I’ve found most of these items around rock outcrops and even In between them.
