Help ID'ing a token

Hi all,
Makton, Bugs and I detected a couple parks in Kankakee. We had a few finds. In addition to 2 wheaties, I found this token. Bugs actually found the signal, but it was a tough dig so he let me try to recover it. It was 8 to 9 inches deep between 2 huge roots (only about 1 -1.5 inches between the roots to dig). It comes from where a historic riverfront hotel once stood but was razed in 1904 and turned into a park. Any ideas on this token? One side says 2863. The other side says "GOOD FOR 5c IN TRADE".

Re: Help ID'ing a token

Don't think its a slot token. I think it is a trade token

http://www.pnna.org/reference/trade_tokens.html

Don't know much about trade tokens. This article said usage began in 1885 (don't know til when) by merchants. Thus I think the big question is what is 2863 -- could it be an address of a merchant in Kankakee, could it have something to do with an old amusement park there, could it be some sort of union or guild, or could it be a 4 digit phone number?

Re: Help ID'ing a token

Gibbsium,
Thanks, I think you are correct! I am guessing it may have come from the old "electric park" amusement park in Kankakee which was open from 1904 to 1932 or from the hotel itself that was open 1880's to 1904 or from a nearby arcade that had opened in 1884 or if they gambled on the riverboats back then. Anyway, cool!

Re: Help ID'ing a token

Jon,
Sweet token! How long did it take you to get it free?
Wish I could have stayed longer but had to take the kids to the amusement park.
I never got a chance to show you the 925 jewelry piece I found...will post a pic later today.

Re: Help ID'ing a token

Makton,
I think it was another 5 to 10 minutes after you left. I was really focused on finding what was there, so my sense of time was not the best. Bugs, being a more objective observer maybe had a better sense of time. It was not too long after you had left, but it still was overall a lot of work to get. Look forward to seeing your silver. We all got a little bit of something that day, so that was good.
