Hello!

I am new to this forum. I would like some help please. Is there anyone who can tell me more about this box? Where does it come from? What is it made of? What stones are on it? How old could it be? I think one of the stones could be a turquoise, any idea which mine does it come from? I am in the UK.

are there any hallmarks on the bottom or underneath the lid? That would be clue as to the material its made of and possibly who made it.

No. The bottom is "lined" with some material. I am quite sure its not silver, silver is reasonably heavy, this has a feel of a "tin". I am more interested in the stones on it and the history. I am quite sure the metal is not precious.

I don't know why, but I keep thinking it's pewter. I have some Arthur Court items that are pewter, and seem to have the same look.

Have you gone over it really well with a magnifying glass? There could be some stamp or symbol hidden somewhere that might give you a clue.

Looks to me like a piece from India. Nice but not old or valuable.

I am in a process of cleaning it, good "toothpaste" session, I am not finished yet - but - see the difference. Any idea? I am starting to think it "could" be silver. No hallmarks at all. I have found this item in an antique shop in the UK. Any ideas?

The hinge construction isn't consistent with an item made of silver. It's just not fitted properly.

Good score looks good to me
