Just my opinion, I really like my Ace250. It was very easy to learn. I don't know about saltwater sand but mine works well in dry or wet sand by the rivers around here. I think you would be pleased with the 250.

It is very hard to find a good one that you can use for the back yard and for the beach if you hit below the dry sand for under $300. Check for a good used detector, and concentrate more on a land detector since it will only be used maybe once a year at a beach. The ace 250 is a good beginner detector but it will have problems with the wet sand, and major problems the closer you get to the water with falsing.

You could also consider a good used detector for a couple hundered more and find what your looking for both land and water. There are many members that sell good used detectors that you can trust if you check the for sale boards............ I have bought 5 used detectors off the boards, never received a bad one.

If you look you can find a Whites Beach Hunter ID for $350+ used, very good on land and a good water detector, light and easy to use....

Remember though, if your going to be in the water more then knee deep your going to need a good water scoop and they are not cheap.

Water hunting at a salt water beach is completely different from land, read all you can about it before you go....

wow, did you ever see the movie "Poltergeist"?????? Those Indian Burial places aren't to be messed with, specially diggin up the chief.

in case you did not know it --- digging up indain remains / burial items is a big no no * its against federal law * even if its on "your land" --- think of a graveyard as being on your land -- just because you bought "the land" could you dig up the dead buried in the graveyard?-don't think so -- to think of digging in known indain burial areas shows "bad taste / poor judgement / bad ethics " in most metal detectors point of veiw -- to accidently dig something up burial related is something most metal detectorist sooner or later will do by "mistake" and normally they will "replace" it right away and back off / say a prayer / I'm so sorry ----- but to actively seek to dig in a "known" burial area is a differant matter -- (kinda like digging in a graveyard-- bet you could find lots of gold rings and jewelry in a graveyard --- geez bet your great great grandmaw still has her wedding band on her hand from when they buried her so lets go to the old graveyard she is buried in and lets dig her up and get it --- is this ok by you ? didn't think so --indains feel the same way about their "elders" of old)--- to find surface finds or indain villiage living area finds are one thing and are thought of highly by most folks -- but digging in "known" burial areas are a differant matter (basically its grave robbery)-- and indains of old due to their way of life were very in tune with the "spirit world" --so dig at your own risk. -- because both the US and STATE govt archie types and most "normal folks" (the living) and the spirits of the dead you disturbed will all be after ya. * (that would be just about everyone) -- so its not a good ideal in my book *

Well said Matey Iven!

Ye should not dig on any buriel ground not matter where it is located! It is ageinst the law and unethical!

This forem does not endorse bad behavior from its members! Do not post comments describing yer illegal actions! Most of the members of this traesure huntin community are law abiding citizens (nice pirates!). Talkin about illegal actions gives all the traesure huntars a bad name.

This forem is public and anyone can read it. Native American artifacts are for the most part protected by federal law as Iven well stated. Buriel grounds are protected by both state and federal law, and by God's law so don't tresspass them!

Better to use yer detector on the beach where huntin is legal! Nobody will give ye advice here on breakin the law! I hope that ye were just joking about diggin on the indian buriel ground, although it was a bad joke! >:(

Odds are real good you will not find anything at all with your metal detector, but you could find yourself in legal hot water.............

Also remember all these boards are watched by "big brother", and I don't mean Marc ...................
