HELP...newbies wanna go mining for gems

Hi, I am going to take my family on a mining trip for the next day, maybe two.... Can you guys tell me where I should go for the best finds. We are in Elizabeth City, NC so we kinda want to stay close to hear since it's a short trip. Thanks so much for any help you can give us.

There are several places in your area or close to you that have mines where you pay so much per bucket and see what you find. Check with the geology people in your state or just type in gems and your state in a search box and see what comes up.
I have a friend that lives in Claremont, NC and there are some places within 60 miles of there or closer, but I can't remember the names. If you don't want to do that, just call a local jewelry store and they can probably advise you. Good luck & happy hunting.
