Hello everyone,
First “Honeybun” is the name of our new Beagle pup incase you’re wondering.
I’ve been an avid Coin/Currency, sports cards, collector for over 50 years, and finally sold it all.
Sooo, I need a new hobby, and I’ve always wanted to get into prospecting, but prior attempts only led to my wife running the gold bug, and I only got to run the shovel.
I want to get out more. In May (2026) we did a camping trip up by Ely, (in a tent, don’t have an RV) and spent time at Garnet Mountain digging for gems. It was a lot of fun.
The first 2 weeks of July (2026) we went to Montana, unfortunately my new Sluice didn’t arrive till after I left Vegas for Montana, so i didn’t get any gold prospecting done, but we did go spend a few days at Crystal Park digging for Crystals. We stayed in a rustic cabin at the Elkhorn hot springs just 6 miles away, again we had a blast.
Plan on going back to Montana in September, and hope to have a chance at some prospecting for gold this time.
Until then, I’m going to start working on building a concentrate processing center in my garage, and a portable power box that can run it at home, and can also take to the field when camping and or prospecting to run pumps, a few lights, inflate an air mattress pump, and re-charge phone etc by the tent. That’s going to be a huge project on its own. I will have to post pics and ask for help on its design down the road, in another thread, as this is just for introductions.
I’m in my mid-60’s, retired, on my 2nd chance at life, after dying from a massive “Widow maker” heart attack about 2 years ago and they brought me back to life on the surgery table. My wife has been battling stage 4 Breast cancer that metastasized to her bones, but so far we are at a maintenance stage, meaning the cancer is still there, but not growing, which is the best we can do right now.
Thus we are getting out and enjoying as much as possible.
We are also avid cruisers, we’ve already done 3 cruises in Mexico earlier this year, and in November and December (2026), will be meeting 2 other couples in Ft. Lauderdale to start our 28 day cruise in the Caribbean.
Well I think I’ve introduced myself enough for now. I will look at the other threads later for suggestions on where in Southern Nevada to go Prospecting.
Thank you!
