Hi all, posted this on Tokens and Tags, but thought more people might see it here. It's a token from Flaherty's Cafe in Dedham, Mass. Can't find any info on the business. Pix in the original post - http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,58770.msg416834.html#msg416834
thanks!
Lara

Unfortunately, as far as I know, there's no book on Massachusetts tokens.

One of the best experts for trade tokens of all states here at TNet is idahotokens If he doesn't see your post and respond, you might send him a PM.

You could also try getting in touch with the following organization and requesting a referral to a specialist in tokens of the state:

Have you tried contacting the Dedham, Mass. Historical Society? I see they have a website. You might find out something about Flaherty's Cafe through them...timeframe, owner, street location, etc. Maybe they're even have one of the tokens in their collections.

Your token is very nice.

Hi, Lara--I did see it @tokens & tags, but can't tell you beans about it. As PBK indicated, there is no MA trade token book, and as far as I know, very few MA collectors. Maybe that is why no book...not much interest. I checked the 1910-30 censuses for the name Flaherty in Dedham and came up empty. It is quite likely that the token was used after that - the style was in use up through the 1950s (at least in the western US). You could probably nail it down with a few hours' research in the Dedham library, assuming they have old city directories, but short of that, contacting the libraries and historical societies others have suggested is the best bet.
