Help Requested for Unidentief Pewter Item

I found this at a site north of Vicksburg where I've found civil war artifacts. I'm not saying this is a civil war artifact but it sure has me scratching my head. I'm hoping someone can tell me what this is.
It's theaded and all pewter. Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

Top to a very early gas can and most likely made of zinc. Zinc corrodes a lot like pewter.

I remember my dad had some from WWII. Amazing what you remember from 50 years ago, and forget what you had for dinner yesterday.

I remember those they are still on some of the bigger gas cans now I feel old lol
