had safari alittle over month, works great on beach, not bad around old cellar holes, took it to a couple back yards, one to find a lost ring took about 15 mins to find about 3-4 inches deep but in the yards it goes crazy with chatter tried differant settings but no difference.. is this normal?

I would suspect you have a EMI source close. Tried any other detectors there? Same result?

they are old yards, middle 1800's i think too much iron in the ground ? if i run it on disc. its always no sound, run it on all metal makes so many tones i can't tell a good one from a bad one even going slow like one min. a foot !! maybe not used to it . went back with gold bug found all the stuff i missed. safari works good on saltwater beach, as long as ther is not alot of black sand. then it won't even pick up a coin laying on top of the sand.

Like i said i don't have a Safari.... But if you like the Gold Bug Pro that is what you should use.... And if you are unhappy with the Safari i would say sell it............ If you use a detector you are not happy with or do not feel confident with ..... You will not get any pleasure out of detecting..... It might just discourage you.......... The best detector for one to use is the one they like not one someone else say's is the best detector made....... For it might be the best for them ....... And be the worst for you................

I don't like the auto sensitivity myself. Have you tried lowering the sensitivity to like 3-5? I find that in some locations this is necessary for mine. And it still gets lots of depth. Hope this helps. CARM

I will talk all day about my Safari....I love it.....I got mine on ebay for half the price of a brand new one....excellent machine and very user friendly...excellent depth as well

So Keppy....Why is it nobody wants to talk about their safari...very interested in your "expertise"

I had Safari but sold it to buy my ETrac... I suspect there was either EMI interference or he had his sensitivity turned up to high. I never run in auto, I tune the detector to the location, even my excal is and sov gt is tuned at the beach..........

hey was wondering does the safari have a backlight?

yeah keppy what he said lol.... no really why?

I found the Safari was a good detector, I sold mine only because I found a really good deal on a ETrac and needed the funds to buy it..... Already had 6 detectors, didnt see the need to have 6 so sold the Safari and My waterproofed Sov GT...........

In a very trashy area..yes this is normal. You have a couple options here. Either lower the sensitivity and detect very very slow through it or purchase a smaller coil for trashy areas.

Sovereign or Safari...doesn't matter....It's the educated guy that is swingin' it and decides to dig or not to dig.....that's what makes a great detector

well ive had absolutley no problems with my safari and ive been right up against power poles and goes through iron like its nothing its all in the user

I'm deff getting a safari. I have done a lot of reading on them, and watch a lot of youtube on them. As soon as the cash flow is right ill have one . Just hoping for a mild winter in Pa to try it when I get one.

Me too! I am gonna drink the koolaid and get one. I have read a lot about them and just ordered Andy's book on the Safari. I have considered many detectors and narrowed it down to the Safari and X-tera 705. I seriously considered a Fisher CZ3D, but since they went First Texas depth performance bites. That is a shame. After a ton of reading I choose the Safari. I want depth and hopefully that is what I'll get. I can handle going slower and learning it's language. I am now just waiting for tax return time to nail one new or used on Fleebay.

How do you Safari users like yours?
