Help! What is this fruit?? Shrub?

I'm on the central California coast.
I thought this might be a loquat? maybe a persimmon?
Not sure if it's a tree or a shrub.

Ha! Does anyone know what this is?

You got yourself there a young Persimmon...they turn bright orange when they are ready to eat. It is a tree...the fruits originated in China...I'm not a fan, but some people like the taste

Here in the midwest(MO),only after the first freeze are they good.When you split them open you will find either a knife,or a spoon, or a fork pictured in the seed and that will tell you what kind of winter it will be.I have several trees and I let the deer have all they want.

That is a good bunch of persimmons there and in reading the replies to your post referring to their tart tast reminded
me of a little juke i heard once.

They say that the best diet for losing weight. You eat 14 tart persimmons for breakfast, and by the time your

mouth is all unpuckered, dinner and supper have alresdy gone by. LOL

I believe what you have there is a fuyu persimmon, sometimes called a fugi persimmon. I have a tree of them in my back yard. My wife loves them, eats them like an apple with the skin and sometimes peels them. google fuyu persimmon and there are a few recipes for them.

and you are absolutely correct!

I looked it up, they look exactly the same, and these are slightly sweet, even though they are apparently not ripe.

Fuyu Persimmon.

I woulda never thunk!

Apparently there are two kinds of persimmon.
The kind I am used to seeing/eating is called Hachiya.
They are every bit astringent/tart as described by all.
