First, this is not a detector find. I picked this up locally. It is a pitcher of some sort. It stands about 15" high and is covered with religious icons. It appears to be the story of the Crucifixion, from the trial to the resurrection. It has crosses all over it and angels at the top.

There are no markings on it anywhere. The colors are blue and white with an iridescent finish that gives off a beautiful but very subtle rainbow hue in the right light. I believe that it is porcelain. Any help is appreciated.

Hard to tell on glazed pottery, as there is so much of it. Without marks, makes it all the tougher to figure out. Maybe it was for holy water? but could have been the Popes water pitcher for all I know. Best to do, is hope you find the same image online that has the details. I'm sure there'd be more of the same out there, as that was made in a mold.

Thanks for the info. I know nothing about this type of thing. I am looking for it online. I have found several with very similar shapes, but not the same motif. Some were marked and some were not.

I appreciate your reply.

Being it's unsigned, may be it was un-fired, un-glazed, ceramic green-ware that was produced for a ceramic project by someone in the hobby of firing and decorating their own ceramics. They sell endless designs and patterns for that hobby. Your pitcher could be one of the many that a person could purchase and finish themselves.

I agree that this was most likely used in a Catholic church as a vessel containing Holy water. I cannot think of any other reason one would have such a pitcher. I would try Google searching along those lines and see what you can find. It is a very striking piece...but I'm not sure I wanna pour a glass of Kool aid from it...

i have only seen baptismal ewers in silver, never ceramic...so I doubt the church connection.
