I was hunting an old homesite in Madison county, MS this morning. The site dates back to 1812 and was occupied until the 1940s. I found this brass buckle this morning. It's large - measuring just over 2.5''. Can anyone help me with identifying what this buckle was used for? Was it equestrian or used as a sling buckle? I'm attaching a front and back photo. Thanks for any assistance or guesses.

I was thinking more of a strap guide for a strap kinda like a seat belt of course something older. Is it flimsy or pretty thick?????
