Any bank thats exposed might have artifacts. However knowing where sites are along the shore can save alot of walking but you have to find the areas first.

In our region, more artifacts are found on the shore that has easier access to the water. More likely the natives lived or camped in these easier access areas. Artifacts can be found along much of the shoreline though.

Prevailing winds are likely what dictate which banks see more erosion from wave action, or there can be erosion from tributaries that flow into the Lake. Areas near these tributaries may be a good place to look for a site.

Hey Trev, you b.a., what's going on? I don't lake hunt much and I assume you mean man made lakes. I think you want to go to the larger river impoundments. Study maps that show the old river channel. Wave action is very important. In Iowa, the middle archaic sites are a lot of times, deeply buried. So saddles, next to the river where they once camped, are now buried under a slope. So in other words, it might be steep now, but was a level spot then. Look for feeder creeks and southeast exposures. Goodluck!
