We went camping this past weekend at Mt Princeton near Salida, CO. We were looking for rocks/gems in the river and I found this. Glass? Sea glass? Some sort of obsidian? There’s a yellow mineral or something in there that stands out. Looks almost opaque black until light shines through it. Then it’s a olive greenish yellowish color. Very interested to find out. Pics and lighting aren’t the greatest. I Tried to take pics before I got home to better light cause I didn’t want to wait to post it lol. It appears to me to have a fossil shell imprint on one side. No fossils in obsidian. If it is a shell fossil, it would be some type of flint or chert. Gary

A good example of Conchoidal fracture.:occasion14:

Conchoidal Fracture
Exactly what I was about to say. In this case it has been stream tumbled after being fractured giving it the smooth appearance. It would be impossible for there to be a fossil in obsidian, as obsidian when it is formed is so hot it would burn away any trace of anything living. Obsidian is basically cooled molten lava.
