I used to walk the railroad tracks with my brother and grandfather as a kid. He would have us put coins on the track before the train came. So exciting as a child. Finding are smushed hot coins afterwards. We would also help him collect old insulators that were up and down the sides of the tracks. Most were broken but occasionally we'd find a good one. Well my mom was cleaning out her garage the other day and found several of these Hemingray #40s I assume were ones we helped find many years ago. She was going to throw them out. I was like heck no. I took 4 of them and my brother got the rest. They stopped making these in 1921. One actually still had the threaded piece of wood still in it.

Nice!!! Congrats!!!

"Worthless" as most of them seem to be, I have always liked them. There are some really nice ones out there.. weird colors and shapes.
Some day they will be worth a lot I would bet.

Ive looked for those forever never found one that wasnt broken I love thoise things. I found 1 at a yard sale Amtel & Tel CO looks like those but the bottom if smooth and the middle isnt as pronounced but the color is the same. Good job on saving those...I also remember putting coins on the tracks and there were some great fishing spots. In Ann Arbor now they have no trespassing signs anywhere near the tracks rrrrhhh.....Tommy

I used to shoot those things with my BB gun back when I was a kid.

I’ve found about a dozen in different colors. Walking the R/R tracks as a teen. Used to also find those old Thomas A Edison Battery Oil cork top bottles. The glass insulators make great additions to rock gardens.
