Hello Everyone,

As promised, here's a couple pics of my 507, and counting, silver coins I've dug this year so far. The first pic contains my Halfs, Quarters, Barbers, Mercs, and War Nickels. The second pic are my Rosies. Total coinage value is about $57. Total weight is about 3.5 pounds. All were individual silver finds, mostly from the turf, from a total of about 44 parks...no caches...I had a few multiple silver holes, which are always exciting to dig. My best silver and most rewarding find so far has to be the 1858 Seated Half I found about 3 weeks ago in a heavily hunted area. ::) Interestingly, after almost 450 silver dimes found, I've found about the same number of mercs as rosies. To pull these silvers out of the ground, I had to dig over 2200 wheaties, a handful of Indian Heads and Buffalos, lots of clad(about $900 worth), a good amount of jewelry(about 68 silver pieces, a few gold), and a mess of trash. It's been a truly great year for me so far. Just looking at these pics has brought back so many great memories of my prior hunts(I just did a double fist pump!!)....hoping to get maybe a 100 more before the year end....we'll see. ::)

If I had to give one helpful bit of information for all md'ers out there it would have to be this:
Never give up on an area that you think has been hunted out.....it hasn't... ;D :D

Thanks for looking,
CAPTN SE
Dan

Haha! Man, it's pretty cool to see it all together like that. If I were you I'd put it all together in a bucket and try to swim in it, a la Duck Tales. Or at least dump it all over my head a few times...

How many Barbers is that total? And how many came out of "that Barber park"? Yeah, it's true, I just want to know so that maybe I can have one up on you; because it's an accomplishment to have one up on the CAPTN! :D

And that just reminded me, I think it's about time to take FAST off; meant to do it a while ago.

Also for other Explorer users out there, I used to hunt if FERROUS with a much tighter discrimination pattern, but after hunting with Dan finally changed to CONDUCT. It really works, and has been a great improvement. And once you get it down it's a boon to know both; you get a little more information in the turf (switching back and forth) and you still have FERROUS in your head for iron laced demo-type hunting.

Great pics Dan! Let's get out again soon (we need to find some new parks!)

Silverfreak: I've heard that Auto Sens. is really debilitating to the Explorer's depth. I've never used it, but a fellow detectorist I met while out in Iowa had it on and when I told him he might want to go manual (as well as make a couple other adjustment) the results were immediate as he dug a few deepies the very next day that he probably pased over many times before.

Thanks, Bryce.

Setting auto-sensitivity over here in CA will greatly reduce your depth, because the ground conditions are highly mineralized. The machine will reduce the overall sesitivity far lower than you would want to be able to dig deeper coins. Being in auto-sensitivity, you never, never really know what the actual sensitivity of your machine is. I imagine if you're in an area with little ground mineralization, then setting 26 auto will be nearly the same as setting 26 manual.

Sweet pics Dan.
I have always hunted in conductive as well but have recently bumped the gain to 10 and hunting in semi auto sensitivity at about 26. I have actually been hunting with fast and deep both on but will now give your settings of both off a try and see what happens. What do you run your iron mask at?

Hey, Jay, I just spilled the whole pile over my head like you said....That feels pretty good...now I got silver all over my carpet....Hahaha.

You know you have me beat at barbers and seateds. Maybe I have you in CA barbers though...hmmm...I've got 13.

Yes, let's find another park soon. It was tough hunting yesterday. Glad I was able to eek out a couple more at the end.

Seriously, Captn, you should post all of your clad, too. There are some clad hunters on here, but I don't see any at $900 and just think, you aren't really trying for those coins. If you started to hunt only clad, you would have over $2,000. :o :D

I might just do that, Kirk. They are the most common metal detecting finds. But I can only post from April to today. I turned earlier clad in already.

Sounds good, bud. I wonder if you will make the banner? YOU SHOULD!

Keep making the wilver carrying dudes in the past proud.

Thanks, Sentinel...Actually, I met Tom (the guy with 11 gold coins) at a hunt in San Francisco back in May. Great hunter and CA historian. His posts on our CA detecting forum are spectacular. Lots of reales/phoenix buttons/old mission relics from him this year.

That is terrific. Tom is a lucky guy, and I would have to definitely agree with him, you all get more gold coins over there than we do in the East. Guess with the gold rush and all the Gold that was diffused around the West during the great days of the old West. Again though, your silver is BEAUTIFUL sir! My hat is off to you!

Dan,

I have the top picture of your wilver haul as my desktop background. It looks great! So, each time I turn my computer on, I get a fix of wilver.

I have been drooling over these photos all day and I finally got some time to comment.

What a great pile of treasure my friend!! You are the man!! Bowing to the master. Thanks for sharing buddy. Keep em coming.

100 more hunts this season... I am TOTALLY jealous.
I am lucky to get 50 hunts a year with the weather and my too busy home schedule. I am really looking forward to seeing what you bring in these next few months. Best of luck and please keep posting and sharing with us!! Thank you!! It is really inspirational to see this much treasure is possible.

Smiles!
