Hello Everyone,

As promised, here's a couple pics of my 507, and counting, silver coins I've dug this year so far. The first pic contains my Halfs, Quarters, Barbers, Mercs, and War Nickels. The second pic are my Rosies. Total coinage value is about $57. Total weight is about 3.5 pounds. All were individual silver finds, mostly from the turf, from a total of about 44 parks...no caches...I had a few multiple silver holes, which are always exciting to dig. My best silver and most rewarding find so far has to be the 1858 Seated Half I found about 3 weeks ago in a heavily hunted area. ::) Interestingly, after almost 450 silver dimes found, I've found about the same number of mercs as rosies. To pull these silvers out of the ground, I had to dig over 2200 wheaties, a handful of Indian Heads and Buffalos, lots of clad(about $900 worth), a good amount of jewelry(about 68 silver pieces, a few gold), and a mess of trash. It's been a truly great year for me so far. Just looking at these pics has brought back so many great memories of my prior hunts(I just did a double fist pump!!)....hoping to get maybe a 100 more before the year end....we'll see. ::)

If I had to give one helpful bit of information for all md'ers out there it would have to be this:
Never give up on an area that you think has been hunted out.....it hasn't... ;D :D

Thanks for looking,
CAPTN SE
Dan

Thanks, VP!!

I found that when running FAST ON, Deeper signals are easily missed because the Explorer will "clip" the sound...it's like a short chirp....deeper targets can easily be missed if you're not swinging slow enough. When using DEEP ON, the machine will be less responsive because extra processing is required to give a more accurate ID when DEEP is on. So good targets that are next to iron or trash will be less likely to be found with this setting ON. Then why not set both ON?? Well, a tech at Minelab I spoke with said not to do this...setting both filters on will produce erratic results from the machine. I used to run DEEP on when I first got my machine, then I tried just FAST on...I found silver with both these settings, but now just set both OFF, and I've been having great results....coil changes(smaller coil) actually make a bigger difference at the machines ability to find good targets next to trash. I have an 8" sunray coil, a coiltek platypus elliptical coil, and a stock Exp. II coil. I have found lots of silver wth each coil, but lately have been using the Exp. II coil with great success.

The Explorer bounce is when the the target icon on the smartscreen display keeps changing position(bounces) a little back and forth, or diagonally from it's usual position on a known target. This happens on deeper targets. The sound is still that un-mistakeable fluty tone.

congrats - talk about inspiring !!!!!
makes me want to run out with my detector right now !!!!

couple questions from a fellow se user
why Fast & Deep both off ? do you gain anything by doing this ?
(i run cond sounds, deep, 8 gain)

also do you use only the stock coil ?

not sure i've run into the "SE bounce" on deep targets - can you explain ?

thanks in advance

vp

alright dan! it's been a pleasure hunting with you all these months. i think we all learn something new whenever we all get together for a hunt. with all the signal comparisons we do, it's bound to happen.

here's to learning even more in the future.

cheers!

WTG, impressive silver finds this year! Hope you keep finding a lot more. ;)

Yes! Awesome! I can picture it right now, haha...

Oh yeah, I meant CA Barbers; obviously the Iowa stuff would be a bit unfair :)

And yeah, we need a new park...

<<Hey, Jay, I just spilled the whole pile over my head like you said....That feels pretty good...now I got silver all over my carpet....Hahaha.

You know you have me beat at barbers and seateds. Maybe I have you in CA barbers though...hmmm...I've got 13.

Yes, let's find another park soon. It was tough hunting yesterday. Glad I was able to eek out a couple more at the end.>>

What an unbelievable amount of silver!

If I were you, I'd keep the Barbers and other keep-able ones and get the rest melted into a GREAT BIG INGOT.
Silver is nearly 13 an oz., last I saw.

Thanks again everyone for your generous comments. :D

This md'ing year so far has been a year I've always wanted to have, but never thought I could attain. I've met and exceeded my goals this year. Each additional silver coin I get now is icing on the cake.
