I shared my idea for the need of a higher frequency pinpointer. A multiple selectable frequency actually.

One with more sensitivity for tiny items or better depth maybe, but, the main detector will tell you what it probably is. You just need a pin pointer to make a quicker recover, not discriminate.

I agree, I use pinpointer strictly to recover targets quickly.

That’s exactly what I was referring to. Pinpointer freq wise haven’t kept up with actual detectors. Having a higher frequency pinpointer option on a pinpointer would come in handy for some folks. Some detector models and coils can detect some some stuff. Smaller than use to be detected.

This if it materialized could make after locating some targets with detector faster!!
I am the only person to my knowledge to talk about this. Prior to my posting of video talking about.

The only advantage of a higher frequency is for detecting smaller targets, like sub-gram gold nuggets. And in most ground that has gold, it's tough to get VLF working well. Probably a multifrequency pinpointer is the right answer, it's been on my list for a long time.

I do use a pin pointer once in a while, but most of my many, many years of detecting I didn't own one. If you really get to know what your machine is telling you, a pin pointer is just extra weight to carry. If you don't get to know your machine that well, you are missing a lot of good, faint signals.

Tack on exchange rate, and customs, it gave me the Canadian price even though the quotes were US.

I found a roll of dimes in the late 80's before pinpointers and it took me dang near a half hour to find all 50 of the dimes. (paper roll was long gone) With a pinpointer I would have saved more than 20 minutes and been up and swinging for the next target faster. The more targets dug the better the odds of finding...TREASURE. Had I swung for another 20 minutes rather than looking for dimes in the soil I might have found a really nice target. Pinpointers are a must for quick recovery and on to the next find.

Never used one and wouldn’t want the burden of carrying/charging one for the sake of saving 20 minutes on finding a roll of any coins. To each their own. I’ve dug, let’s just say a lot of targets, and never had enough difficulty to employ another tool. I could see how it may help avoid costly damage to rare coins which is a good argument for using one. I also understand target recovery efficiency is key to quantity of valuable finds.

I’ve used my dad’s. My hands are typically filled with..defector in one hand, digging tool in the other. But I may take your suggestion, just because I have numerous things that in my youth I now recognize as being the result of being close minded.

Would a pinpointer with approx 12 kHz and approx 30-40 kHz or so be possible and help detectorist - Thomas Dankowski's Metal Detecting Forum
