There was a rich family in my village, in the 1700's, which went by the name Moctezuma y Cortes. No one knows for sure where the name Cortes came from. We know where the Moctezuma came from, because the Emperors tended to have many wives, and married their daughters to any chieftain around. We know who and when.
But, Cortes? There is at least one historian who says Cortes once visited our village, and he was such a womanizer that would be all it took to leave an offspring.
Or, a natural son of Cortes was for a time comedor (leech on the taxpayers) for this region.
