Sorry for the lame introduction of myself.
I've been a treasure and rock hunter my whole life. As a kid searching the islands and banks of local rivers after heavy rains and floods was the start of it all. I've never owned a "good" metal detector but do have some experience with cheaper models, just haven't found any real juice yet.
The one thing I'm reminded of from time to time is the story about my childhood desk. After my parents divorced and we had to move (I was 12) every drawer was full of cool stones, rocks, quartz, or any other weather beaten object I thought was cool. There was probably 200 lbs. of stuff in that cheesy desk. I scrambled to box up every single one I ever collected and still have most of them to this day.
Growing up near a rock quarry we used to pan little gold specks out of the local creeks with my mom's pie tins. So I learned to pan with whatever I could find....hubcaps, tupperware, dog dishes, etc. Needless to say I'm not rich but very proud of the few flakes I've collected over the years.
To this day, now that I'm getting older and the kids are grown I still bring rocks home from every where we visit. My eyes are always trained on streambeds and creeks looking for "The Prize". It's always funny to see my wife's eyes roll when she see's a pile of rocks or bucket of dirt in the back of the truck as we're ready to depart from our vaction. I bring a little peice of where ever we go home with me.
I find this forum to be the most intersting to lurk around on. So many great stories and info.
My goal is to get myself a good metal detector. I mostly search in fields, woods and water edges. I would like to be able to do some under water too. Any input would be greatly appreciated
Just introducing myself.
I guess you could say I got the fever.
My next thing is to get a good metal detector.
Anyone got any input for what kind I should look for.....features, model, etc.
Thanks so much,
T
