Metal Detecting
Hello everyone, I'm new in this place and as I see most users are from US but I don't see a problem. Place seems to be full of discusions and passionate people so I decided to join you. I hope to learn something here and just sometimes join any discussion about metal detecting. I'm interested in history and it naturally happened to me, reading, books etc was not enough so finally, about two years ago I bought my first metal detector and despite where I live, in general it's not best hobby to choose, I started to dig:). After some time, luckily I found someone who is deep in it for many years so it's not bad.

Ok, I introduced myself and I choosed in purpose to do it in this section so I can at same time to ask some of you for helping me to identify a few coins, especially these Roman coins:)
Other coins, I suppose are not special at all but this time I allow myself to attach them, maaaaaybe I'll be suprised.
Usually I rather prefer to learn what I found, by myself but sometimes it is worth to ask someone more experienced and as I lastly had some luck with coins I would like to ask you about best reliable, online places to search info about coins. Place other than forum like this one, I know google and in general I know how to find info online, but maybe somehow I missed something worth recomendation, who knows. Sometimes I ask myself if searching online is a time wasting and the only good way is to study, invest some money in serious books, military catalogs etc? Any thoughts? If not just ignore it :P

I attach photos and that is it from me for now, thanks
I just reminded myself about small medallion with some Kaiser. It interested me a little and I'll attach photo of it as the last one, be my guest and take a look. I found it in one of many places in mid Europe with german stuff just buried under the ground after WWII, sometimes quite deep, but rather more often not deep. I was told, and it must be at least part of what happened these days after WWII, it was pretty common practise, soviet army preffered to bury anything what was german. The thing is, between WWII stuff it's quite easy to find older things, as these terrains belonged before to Germany. It's just little interesting facts, and I still can't believe how the idea of making and wearing medallions with some current ruler and such a similiar things must have been popular state of mind. Nationalism must have been strong in these centuries. Well, enough of these considerations, peace

Addictive, but mostly in a good way:)

Numista looks interesting, and I'm pretty sure it's gonna be helpful in most cases but when it comes to identify Romans.. well, somehow it already takes me over a year :P Maybe it is just a matter of time and some experience, anyway thank you pal

Roman coins marked with the SC are most often, with few exceptions, produced between 27 BC and 284 AD. Coins with the countermark AVC have been associated to Augustus (27BC-AD14) and Tiberius CE14-37 though the "A" on this coin may be either a botched A or another unlegible letter.

Niki, you wrote: . "Sometimes I ask myself if searching online is a time wasting and the only good way is to study, invest some money in serious books, military catalogs etc? Any thoughts?"
My anwers is researching can be done both online and via the other ways you mentioned; all methods at one time or another may 'bear fruit'.
My preference is online, though I have a reference book library to resort to; like Byzantine Coinage and Their Values by David R. Sear.

Thank you for mentioning about this title. I'm going to buy it, looks decent and promising.
