Does anyone else feel like this hobby has become a compulsive habit? I drive by closed banks on the way to do things other than CRH and get a little mad...why cant they stay open 24 hours a day? Whats up with closing at 12 on saturday? I mean its really fun, but I get a little itchy when I haven't had any rolls to look through for a day or two. Ive tried the dimes, but they are so hard on my eyes. Anyway, just wondering if we need to find a twelve step plan for our little hobby.

I know exactly what you mean.

To break the habit have someone go through all the boxes before you do and remove the keepers. After opening about 100 of those boxes, your cured! ;D

Hang in there RD.

Hi Riverdog! I know exactly what you mean, and I search through 60 boxes a week. I think that classifies me as an addict. I also hate it when a branch forgets to order coins, and I have to figure how I'm going to survive until my next order arrives.

My oldest son lives in Hampton Beach Va. He is in the Air Force and has been for 13 years.

Good luck hunting Va!!!

Hi, I'm GMan, and I'm a CRH addict...and loving every minute of it.

Though because I search all denominations and my current method is to stop by 3 branches of the same bank once per week and pick up as many bags of pennies, nickels, and dimes from their coin machine that I can afford, I haven't had a shortage of something to look through since I have started this method about 2-3 months ago. I also occasionally do other random pickups for halves or road trips for variety.

Currently, I have just under $650 in pennies to look through as I just opened one of the bags a little bit ago. This method also means I usually don't eat up as much gas or time to acquire the coins which I look at as a huge plus as well.

You think that is bad? There are a couple of local banks that are only open Monday - Friday 9AM-3:30PM talk about "bankers hours" I have never stepped foot in those banks. I bet only retired people that have lots of old coins to deposit go there. >:( How can they possibly have any working age customers.

I use a jewelers loop loop.webp
Only $20 at: http://www.action-electronics.com/magnifiers.htm
Sure I look like an idiot when I check my coins, but my wife already knows that so I don't have to prove it. ;D

Thats a real good idea, I have been thinking of buying one of those anyway for some detail work on models etc. I had a pair a decade or so ago, and let it go one way or another.

what are we going to do when we run out half's to search. will there be a mass move to some other nation that had silver in their coins. are will we just break down and sit out front of our favorite bank an cry please, tell me what will the end be like!! and is there something we can do now to help when it ends.

T'will be a sad day, to be sure.
RD

Well, I'm also an addict but I have the future all figured out. All we have to do is have LJ release all of her coins and the cycle will start all over again. Pretty simple.
