Hello found this today at an early 19th can celeriac hole
It is hinged and has an irony post coming trough from the back

Very unusual back with fold over and mounting apparatus
I have no idea what it is
Any help much appreciated

My guess is that when opened up a piece of material (say a piece of paper) would be positioned between the two surfaces and pressed together making a hole. Kind of like punching a hole in a sheet of paper?
