OK, I bought an old hump backed trunk a few years ago from a yard sale. This past weekend I was going to clean it out and reline it with new wallpaper so I could use it for storage, behind the old lining I found some old Mexican Bonds. I am curious if they are still good. Any ideas where I could check them out? They look really old and authentic.???
Thanks,
Emileel

Every bond has a maturity date. If they aren't cashed within a reasonable amount of time after that date the bond fund is closed. That being said, many bonds command high prices on ebay and such. Other than that, I got nothing.

Thanks so much for your help!

Please keep us posted. Good luck!

That is incredibly cool that they were in the lining! I would have been speechless if I found anything in there, let alone a bond. As for value, they are sovereign bonds, and Mexico is still the sovereign despite the 83 years that have past. They appear to be short term bonds and likely stopped accruing interest a long time ago, but I think you can still redeem them. That said, countries sometimes go belly up financially and default on bonds. I just took a look at an article on the subject and Mexico has had a pretty scary financial history with defaults or near defaults in 1914/62/94. Obviously you would only be concerned with 62/94 and it doesn't look like non-commerical debts were "restructured" at either point. Ask your bank / planner to look into them for you. That's what I would do. Let us know if you are able to cash them in. I would vote banner on the find.
