Weather was better today, so it was a good idea to take the XP for a walk. The fields are still flooded so we went into the woods. Not much to find, some relics left by american troops and a lot of casings i never seen before. About 8 mm caliber, 2" long with a very thick rim. Any info about them from the specialists? We worked our way back to the truck when i got a pretty nice signal. When i put my detector to the side i had another one. Then one more... Ok, i called my hunting buddy and said i got a hoard. He wouldnt believe it till the first coins popped out of the dirt. Most were in bad condition but i could see that they are German Reich money. We worked together with pinpointer and knive and recovered 162 coins. It went dark but we had headlamps in the backpacks... It took one hour to dig the last signal.
After coming home i cleaned the coins a little and took a few pics to show them to You all. The oldest i can date for now is a 5 Reichpfennig from 1906, most are around 1918/20. Interesting is that most are what is called "Notgeld". I think You call it emergency money. It was minted, when germany was short on resources, from low grade materials like aluminium and iron. Some of the aluminium 50 Pfennig pieces are very good, the 10 Pfennig are not so good and there are about 50 iron coins which are completly junk. I got 23 50Pfennig, 82 10Pfennig, 3 5Pfennig and 54 coins not identified. I think these are 10 Pfennig too, but "Notgeld". All together Reichsmark 23,25. Pretty much money at this time when You got a pig for 10 Reichsmark....

hi, westfront. nice haul.. quite a pocket full.. ps-i just pm ed you about the dogtag.you are lucky to still be able to hunt . we are in the winter freeze..

Hi Booty! Got the pm. Thank You!
Winter is gone in the moment. Rain washed the snow away... Time enough to go for a short hunt near my home. Yes, that was a nice haul. Medieval coins would been better... :tongue3:

if only those coins could talk :o Nice finds. Wish we knew the history behind them. Thanks for sharing them

Great find on the coins but I`d like to see some close ups of those shell casings when you get them cleaned up. Do they have any markings on them. :icon_thumleft:

I made some closeups from the casings. For reference a .30 06 and a .30 carbine. There is not much left from markings. Some have none, some You cant read. On one of them there is on both side of the primer a 1. On the right side under the 1 is a 8 or a B. Never seen some like these before and there were dozens of them...we had to move to another place. With every swing of the coil three or four signals. Could that be primer for artillery casings?
