I thought it was going to be a bust but now my goals are capped for the year!

I headed out to the 1830s "Phoenix button" homestead on the Wisconsin River with a new weapon. A 9mm...I mean 9 INCH coil for my Manticore. I wanted to see what the hype was all about. I managed a few good solid tones that my stock 11in coil couldn't sift out of the iron patch. A thimble made into a tinkler cone and a couple musket balls. After that I couldnt manage to find much else. I explored around the site for a while when I decided it was time to swing slow and steady in a small 10 ft radius area where I found most of the flat buttons last week (One of them being the Phoenix button). After about 10 minutes of swinging in the flat-button-sprinkled iron patch, I hit an iffy high tone. It wasnt a solid tone by any means. I wasn't optimistic about it but it was a good enough signal to dig. I cut my plug and about 7 inches down I popped out an oval shaped flat chunk of rusty iron. I swear that round, flat pieces of rusty metal are a detector's cryptonite. I put it in my pouch, got back up and rechecked the hole. There was a perfect, solid 71/72 high tone still in there. I took a scoop of dirt out, laid it on the ground and started moving it around with my pinpointer. Out popped a small and dark disc. I thought it was another really small flat button until I carefully broke some dirt off it and saw stars lining the edge of the tiny disc. My heart began racing because I knew I had found my first ever half dime. The excitement didn't stop there. I broke a little more of the dirt clod off the face of the coin and saw the bottom left corner of a bust. I may have yelled a few explicit words as people were walking down the public trail next to me. I had to tell myself to shut the hell up and calm down. I walked to the nearest puddle and washed as much dirt of my half dime as I could and sent the pictures to my bro.

I've been telling my brother (Username: Styfflin) that my goal is to find a capped bust silver coin this detecting season. I've told him multiple times that I WILL FIND ONE...I just didn't think it would have been this early in the season...lol.

The 1835 half dime has four different variants. Large and small date, large and small 5C. Yours is small date, small 5C. None of the four varieties are worth more than the others. It’s in nice condition and a rare find for sure.👍🏻

Great find! Once you get some time with a small coil in areas with lots of targets, you will never go back to a bigger coil.

Great find! Is that dropped 3 typically out of alignment on this coin? None of the images I have found show this misalignment. So, is this an even a more rare and unusual (translated-Valuable) coin. Could be only my imagination since no one else commented on it.

I had noticed the 5 is off a bit but after a little digging into it, it isn't uncommon.
