Hollowpoint Red's visit - Two Days of Intense Detecting...Drinking a Corona...
Aahhhh, tasty. Drinking a cold Corona after two long days of detecting...
Hollowpointred (Keith) from Deleware drove up 3 1/2 hours on Friday morning to New York, and I have to admit I was feeling a lot of pressure (not from him, from me) to make sure he found some good stuff. Since it wouldn't be very sporting to go bury a bunch of good things for him to find, I had to put him on some good sites and hope for the best. We got the two day detect fest off to a start at the 100 year old camp where we've found silver before, class rings and other stuff. It was a nice sunny day. Earthworks (Gary) and his brother GoingDown (Wayne -- dude, you're killin me, please change that ID :-) joined us and we hit the site for a couple hours. Nothing notable was dug by anyone, so we decided to head to the colonial homestead that has given up old coins, buckles, etc. Since they've already posted, I can say the Earthworks found two large cents and his bro found his first 1700s coin, a King George. Great job, dudes! Bergie (that's me) found a musketball, pretty cool, but otherwise shut out. Hollow kicked butt, but he's still traveling so I won't reveal what he found. We stayed until dark of course and then Hollow and I had a nice dinner and watched the sick 3 overtime finish to the Arkansas upset of LSU. By the way, I recommend steak and eggs with beer while watching football. It was the perfect combo as we sat and talked about the day of detecting. Today it was early wake up call (just me and Hollow this time) and off to the "large cent site", we stayed a few hours but didn't have much luck (couple buttons), so it was off to the old horse race track (1908 to 1927)...I didn't get to have Earthworks photo my two latest finds from there since my last post of the 1908 Barber half I found at the track, so to update you, I went back and found a 1901 Barber quarter (no S mark, but it was a rush when I realized what I had and turned it over looking for the mark) and I found a Barber dime same year...that was last time, so I had high hopes for our trip today. Hollow kicked butt again, with three very nice finds at the track, but I won't mention until he gets to post. Bergie (me again) -- SHUT OUT!! I didn't find anything of note this either day this weekend, but a good time was had by all, and most pleased that Hollow found some good stuff for his time and effort. Look for his post, it will be worth checking out. Bergie (Photo -- Me on left; Hollow on the right)
