This old caboose is just a stones throw from the old railroad station at Rhyolite , Nevada . Wood is a luxury when you live in the desert , so I am certain someone paid a pretty penny for this thing . Compared to the typical miner living in a rock " Cousin Jack " this would have been a " high fluten place " . We know it dates back to the early 1920s because that is when the Union Pacific RR bought out the Los Angeles & Salt Lake RR ( LA & SL ) . Hoss
