How do you use this stabilizer and why?

Some people use a weighted stabilizer attached to the end of the shaft to help offset the weight of the coil, especially the large 15 inch coil.

One big reason I got the Nox is because of it's very light weight. Last thing I'd do was to add more weight. I for one have no problem swinging the Nox with the standard coil, but I swing from the shoulder with a pretty straight arm.

Had shoulder replacement surgery, so no swinging from the shoulder for me.

Sometimes balance is more important than weight.....to a point of course.

This is a rare time that adding more is better.
using a counterweight to offset the coil actually work and can add a much longer detecting time.
my detectors time added hours more time.

I understand! Thank you! Be well and good luck!

That's been my experience with the Nox as well. I came from (and still use) an XP Deus so for me, the Nox IS a bit heavy. Mostly nose-heavy.

I first made a simple PVC counterbalance like above and found that it helped, so I ordered Steve's rod and counterbalance. That helps even more. The graphite shaft removes weight from the front and the counterbalance moves that (and more) to behind the pivot point.

I use the detector buddy arm sling, it takes the weight off the arm and distributes it across your back shoulders

Those straps are just too much of a pain. It’s like putting your leg in a pair of pants and just sloes me down. I have been removing mine for 50 years. A counterweight is so much better.

True. When I bought my Excalibur, I could not swing with my right arm for very long without switching to my left. I ended up buying some marine aluminum tube and made a new shaft that allowed me to mount the controls behind my elbow.. Then I could swing with my right arm for as long as I wanted. My nox 800 is lighter than my excal but more nose heavy than the excal so I will be adding weight to the aft end of the shaft for better balance. Will probably get Steves light weight shaft and counter balance at some point soon.

My solution is simpler.. I swing fast enough that the centrifugal force reduces the weight of the coil. On the wet sand, I skim the coil across the sand... no weight maximum depth.

I tried a counter weight but the extra weight was worse than the imbalance, but to be fair my weight was shorter so it needed to be heavier.
