Please do works fine;brought 1/4" brass tube at hardware store,you can get alum.,or stainless if you want.get a piece of shielded cable like you hook up TVs with solid core wire. leave inner shield on wire.cut away outside insulation.feed Thu tubing. innerwire and tube will make circut when you contact metal.connect battery to tube,neutral wire,then hot wire to bulb,hook solid innerwire to other side of bulb,make sure you have shielded wire even with end of tube,and innerwire sticking out about 1/32"(this is on probe end that goes in ground).for handle cut a block about 4" long and 1" square,or round.measure in 2".drill 1/16" hole all the way Thu block,then drill 1/4" hole halfway Thu for tube.pull innerwire Thu. you can use any dc battery and bulb,you can get fancy and carve out for light,and battery.this works well on coins.

Looks like you could put a point on the end so it goes in the ground easier hence elimitating digging but a mere hole-correct?
Are you going to sell them?

So the advantage is you get more depth than a metal detector for a low low price. Downside is there is no discrimination and you have to poke holes every 1/2 inch.

I am wondering what keeps it from getting clogged up with mud keeping it from being functional.

Good way to aerate the yard.

Good idea, going to make one tonite. I have a 4' hollow probe that would make a great posthole bank finder with your modification!
