Back in 'the day' our local pub owner organized us single guys into an exclusive club . The rules were many about attendance and behavior and the biggest was that we could never turn down a lady that needed 'a ride home'.
Word got around and business picked up visibly at the bar . My buddy ,JB, was a star attraction .
One Saturday night a normal trio ; a racehorse , a plowhorse , and one really hard to look at , walked through the door and the racehorse announced that they'd heard that her friend ,#3, could get a 'ride home' at this bar .
#3 ,if she startled it, could have caused a freight train to take a dirt road .
The bartender looked at JB and said, "You're up.
"JB" rose from his stool in his most courtly manner and addressed #3 ,"Would you like a ride home ?"
"Oh ,yes !" she twittered .
JB promptly reached into the closet beside the door , retreived a broom , and handed it to her saying ,
"Here ya go !"
That was the end of the exclusive club at Gambino's .
