Lousy weather today, 35 degrees out with rain and snow showers. But the ground is really saturated right now, so I went to one of my old spots I've been hitting for 5 years. Haven't detected it in over a year because the finds eventually dried up. Spent an hour there and dug a lot of junk and only one coin, but it's a good one! Found a 1920D Merc about 6 inches down. Really thin and worn, but still fun to dig up.

The last silver coin I found at this location was a 1773 1/2 real in September 2014. That's a long time in between silvers! What's even more amazing is that I saw a guy with a huge 15 inch coil doing this spot last October. How we both missed this coin up until now is beyond me. Never give up on the good spots, I guess.

Here's a few pics:

Congrats on the Sweet Mercury.
Just a little theory about revisiting a dried up honey hole, and suddenly finding silver. We just had a winter where the ground froze and thawed numerous times. When the ground freezes and thaws, it moves. Everything in the ground moves. It could be that a coin sitting on edge will move towards a flat position as the ground moves. We all know that a coin in the flat position is a better target than a coin sitting on edge.
Congrats again on your hunt..

sweet silver, congrats!

That Merc's a beaut! Congrats!

Makes perfect sense to me. I'm not the best detectorist in the world, but I'm not bad. I've done this spot at least 30 times over the years, but somehow missed a Merc 6 inches down in the middle of a wide open field? Hard to believe. It must have changed position or was brought up a little by frost heaves. Thanks for that info. Now I'm going to have to do the whole field again! LOL!

That Merc's a beaut! Congrats!

Thanks! Not a rare coin, but it's always nice to dig up a 98 year old silver.

I love when that happens!!! It’s better than when you find your first one at a new spot. Congratulations on that beauty!!

Sometimes those silver dimes don't want to be found yet, and there's nothing anyone can do to change that. They have to be ready for you. When they finally get tired of hiding, the right person at the right time comes along with the right $1000 metal detector and viola! THE MAGIC HAPPENS

I’ve never heard truer words. Lol
