I think I have figured it out. I'm not hooked on metal detecting, I'm hooked on metal detectors! I have been at this metal detecting business for just over a year. When I first got interested I had none and now I have four! There is no way I can use four at once, can't even use two at once very well 'cause I have tried! When I can't get out and hunt I fnd myself getting them out and fondling them, pushing the buttons and watching the pretty lights , listening to the sounds of the rebars in my slab foundation, cleaning them off, checking the batteries and rechecking the batteries, making the shaft shorter, making the shaft longer, sighting down them like a rifle, moving them from one location in the house to another, double checking that I have the right coils with the right detecto, sorting batteries and being sure each detector has spares, moving the batteries from one case to another by brand, charging and recharging my rechargeables, reading and rereading all the manuals, just pushing the imaging button on my 2500 to hear that ladies voice I have fallen in love with, hiding them from my wife who thinks I only have two, (although I know in my heart she is wise to me).......and many other things I can't think of right now. At least I don't sleep with them or dress them up ....yet! I really need another one like a hole in the head yet that Whites DFX is looking good and my credit card isn't maxed out yet, or maybe even that Minelab although it is a foreigner. Perhaps it can be "Americanized"? I noticed Kellyco doesn't even list a price for their DFX, "call for special pricing".....no way, they might talk me into buying it, I hope.... gasp! See what I mean, any excuse! Is it just me or is it happening to all of us? Monty

It happened to me too. I had three, I sold two, and bought a DFX. So, now I have a land machine (DFX) and a water machine (CZ-20). I promised myself that I would never have more than two units..."detector envy" is too expensive and a detector isn't worth anything if it's sitting in a closet.

HH!

Monty, your a treasure. I do the same thing with mine and I have nine of them now. I used to have 12 but gave some away to family. It is like givig a kid away. Some kids you want to run over with the car though. Since I hip mount most of my deectors I don't wrap the wire around the shaft but tape it along tape it along side of the pole so it cuts water resistance when wading. I'm lazy and don't want to waste any of these calories I collected.

I don't mess with Kellyco but now I use Clevengers. I have hime on my speed dial. I am waiting to see what Fisher is going to come out to replace the CZ-20. I just gotta have it and it's not even out yet.......

I know what you mean. I have 6 detectors now, and people ask me what I could possibly want with that many machines.
I just tell them that now I have one for every occassion. But the truth is I take them all with me on every occassion.
If I get another one, I'm afraid there won't be room left in my car. And then I might be the odd man out, and they'll go without me. HH

you guys are all out of your minds! sick, sick, sick! as part of your therapy, you will all need to send your detectors to me for safekeeping!! once you have completed the 2500 steps to recovery i will send back your detectors ..................................maybe. ;D

Hollow,

your right on with us all needing a steps program.

It almost takes over your life.

Like you said, "sick, sick, sick."

all have a good un....................

LOL.

No Monty,
Your hooked on metal detecting! The detectors are only your tools. You need good tools to do good work. Ask any good carpender.
They always have the right tools to do the job right. The more tools you have, the better job you can do. You just need to figure out how to use them all at the same time.

Monty,
I think the only reason you don't dress them up is because you can't find Garrett green clothes in those funny shapes. And if you slept with them, your wife would KNOW you have four!
I currently have three, and find myself gazing amorously at the color centerfolds in all the treasure magazines. The DFX is looking good, the GTI 2500 is nicey nice, and I sure wish I had another, newer Fisher to replace my CZ. I wonder how well those Tesoro's work?
Its a disease.
Metal detecting is a great hobby. Fun, good exercise, and takes you places you never would have discovered without it.
But, its a warm weather hobby. In the winter, all of us get itchy, and tend to indulge by buying new detectors, since we cannot hunt.
I do not quite go so far as you with my detectors, but if I was retired, with no kids at home, I probably would. I work 55 hour weeks and I have two little boys at home with one on the way. The detectors sit for weeks sometimes.
But given time and money, I would probably own about 20 detectors. And all my free time would be spent hunting, researching and cuddling with my toys.

I've always heard tht when the world comes to an end the guy with he most toys wins! Glad to know I'm not the winner yet! Monty

Luckily im only on 3 detectors ;D My reason for having them is, one for high trash areas, one for water, and one for land, im running out of excuses for getting these things :o

..........and youre still a young guy jake!! just wait and see how many you have twenty years from now!!! :o

I laughed a lot reading all these lines.... :D
I have had 10 detectors since 1978...
Now I have 4
Sovereign gt, this one is for big in the woods detecting
Tesoro golden Sabre...for parks and lawns
Fisher 1212-x the back-up detector

Tesoro Sand Shark...p.i. for salt water....

I wish I could earn a living metal detecting

The truth will set you free! I love the way she feels in my arms. When I hear her voice she excites me of possibilities. She is willing to lead me any where. I give her batteries and she responds. I can't even get rid of the one that doesn't work. ?
Monty Thanks I needed that post. Burdie and his mate

I've had 6 but only one mistress at a time. She still likes to get out and show me what she has but it may be time to get a newer, lighter, trimmer version with less maintanence.
Monty, if you need to drop ship-you can use my address. ;D I'll be glad to help keep your addiction from getting too far out of hand. ;)

Maybe those of us who own more than two could put the spares in a pool and trade them around every six months or so? That way everyone would get some "strange" and not have to spend so much money! :D Monty

Know what my theory is on this? I blame Cracker Jack! When we were kids they brain washed all of us with their "treasure" in every box.

In fact, I'll bet Mel Fisher could trace his obcession back to CJ.

Yepper, Cracker Jack...that's what done it. >:(

"Crack a pack of Cracker Jack, You're bound to crack a smile!" Ya, right.

HIO DEAN:
Is the high country Golden Trout fising still any good? I used to solo back pack into the high lakes in the 40's & 50's. No-one up there in those days. I would shoot a small fat deer with my pistol and live on venison and trout for a month or more at a time. In late summer to firsr snow fall i woud use # 22 flies.
