looks like front may be silver,1 1/2 wide ,back either leod or pewter found on a civil war site thanks for any help

Looks like a horse bridal rosette to me. I have found about five or six made of the same material. They were popular in the late 1800's Don't think that it is military. But I love to find them just the same...Lance
