These 2 small fields were searched by invite & not picked by us, but it is the time of year to try anywhere. It was still very wet & the never ploughed ridge & furrow was unsearchable in some of the deeper puddles. But in 2.5 hours we had completed about 70% of the land.
Nothing amazing but I did have a Medieval Lead Spindal Whorl at over 10"
Also I might have my first flintlock pistol butt? Anyone know?
Someone got the pigeon from the 2013 North West Homing Union racing club.

It's on fields like those, that out of the blue, something very special can come up

I should have said something got the pigeon (bird of prey probably), as there is no shooting on this land. I have contacted the NWHU & they have issed a 'Dead Bird Report' to the owner. At least they know now what happened & where.

Crusader, is the whorl the thing that looks like a mason's drill bit?

I'm using the pigeon band as a size reference, I don't think the item below and to the right of it is gun related -- that said, I don't have any idea of what it might be.

Great! Shows what I don't know. Thanks for clarifying. It does look worn. Thought it was a washer !
