In the past week or so I have dug a ox shoe with nails still intact and in place, and yesterday I found a large horseshoe with nails still intact and in place as well. Both these targets were found in the woods in Maine about 30 feet apart in a place where I believe logging has taken place in the distant past. My question is are horse shoes and ox shoes usually found with nails intact?

Christo, here are some pics of the ox shoe, I will post some of the horseshoe in the morning. It just stuck me as very odd I found two shoes with nails intact very close together from two different types of animals.

That's pretty cool! There's gotta be quite a story behind that one.

I am about an hour and a half to two hours away. Where do you hunt when you come up?

My great uncle up there he has 75 acres mostly old logging roads they uses to be an old camp up in the middle of his land the amount of time i get to go up I got no issues in there grab a sidexside a pup tent & c ya later lol

I have found a lot of horseshoes with nails in them while relic hunting. They are not that uncommon. And I have found a lot of the nails without the horseshoe. lol

Ya seems there more common then i had thought I guess it probly pends on ur location & condition of the shoe mayb ones ive found did have the nails just to coroded to c anyways great funda

It looks like the ox shoes may not have been used. If they were the nails would have been cut off and bent over like they do with horses. Cool find.

Sounds like a cool place to hunt! I am sure that place is hiding some cool finds!
