Cold, rainy, windy day in the woods. I had a huge beep so dug about 4 inches down and came up with a large horseshoe. I think probably from a shire horse. Strange find in the woods I must admit along a smal narrow path. I guess in years gone by the path was a lot wider. The forestry commision is cutting down the trees here to landscape over as a road is to be built through. Found a few dog tags and an old penny and a strange object maybe a dog choke and some lead piping. I also found a very small silver piece from a chain.

Hi Jim, yes its a lightbulb. The filiment is still intact and was about 3 inches deep.

Hey nice finds, looks like you had a nice day to be outside. Like the horseshoe. I think I've got enough of them to have a couple sets for a horseshoe game.

Hi! Old horseshoes are cool, with no two ever alike. Put them in a bucket of old motor oil for a while to loosen up the rust, then clean them up. Crafters buy old iron.

I was just invited to an old farm, way up a hollow. The lady was telling me about an old blacksmith shop she knows the location of. She says everytime they mow around a big ol gnarly oak tree they find shoes, which they hang in the tree. I might make a big haul from that spot.

Love the dog tags also!

Good luck!.........HH

Im not sure Mrs Oroblanco it is a very large horshoe and I have put a packet of 20 Victory inside to give a gauge.

I think the lightbulb could be from a car perhaps but have done a close up if anyone knows. Thanks MEinWV for the tip to get the rust off. I was also told I should paint over the shoe with some special preserving paint as the iron will always oxidise. Anyway I found a couple of blank 303 bullets and .22 maybe and a small tip off a walkingstick? Thanks for looking.
