Hot, Humid Hunt.....George Washington Cuff Button...Only 3-5 exist!!!

Got out for a couple of hours before I had to quit. Covered in bug spray, sweating, eyes burning, shirt soaked. Got a tombac

A plain pewter button, pretty big. This took 25 minutes to dig out from under an 4 inch root

Some type of designed button. Its a 2-piece type, the back is obviously metal ,
All caked up with rust

And what I believe is a 1789-97 GWI 19
George Washington cuff button. It looks like a exact match from what I see from georgewashingtoninauguralbuttons.com

I could be wrong but it seems to match up under my loop.

Wow it looks great now. Banner from me. I love links to start with. These are just phenomenal. Email Robert. I will pm you his info if you don't have it

Would that be to get it certified? Yeah that would be great!

Sweet cufflink!!

Banner vote is in...

A dealer I know said they had heard that only the continental army officers were allowed to wear these. That would explain the lack of buttons out there. But that's only hearsay. They could be blowing smoke for all I know:)

So it looks like the banner isn't going to happen. I appreciate everyone that voted and all comments. I just wish more would have voted. When it's on the banner, people can continue to see it. I post my finds not for my own enjoyment but also for others to enjoy. In a week or so, no one will see this when its buried 3 pages down. So again, thanks everyone!

Not happening buddy. If you're able to get a solid Id I promise you this WILL be on the Banner. This could be an incredibly rare piece of American history. We won't let it slip away my friend

That is an interesting piece. I can make out what looks like a Rev War period officer standing there although the image isn't that distinct. Might be easier to see with the piece in hand. I haven't researched it to know how it was determined to be Washington, but he would be the most likely candidate during that time frame.
I can't tell what the other imagery is on that piece :dontknow:
I found a G. Washington cuff link on a Western PA Rev War fort site back in 1991. Since then I have seen 3 others of this style posted - two from SC and one from MD. Mine has an unusual drilled eye, wedge shaped shank. I'm curious what type of shank yours has.

Here's a pic and the relevant text from the "research" site. He says it's for research, but blocks you from downloading images and text. Anyway based on what it says here it appears Creade has indeed found an R-6 GW Cufflink. These are incredibly rare so it's a no-brainer that it goes on the banner as far as I'm concerned. My vote is certainly in.

Definitely the same cufflink as the OP dug. And I just noticed he is holding an upright sword.

Agree. It's definitely the same one as on the Silverstein site. I can't quite make out the top part of the image. Anyone wanna take a shot at trying to outline the image as they see it in a graphics program? This one has as much provenance as the beautiful but incorrectly labelled SC Dragoon button that is up on the Banner -- this one should certainly be up there too. I wish someone would change the title on the other button minimally to "Probable Loyalist Cloak" button as even the OP of that button conceded the original ID on that one was incorrect.

I looked at it through my loop,it certainly looks the same

I'm dying to find a GW button and this is so much cooler and rarer in my opinion. I'm excited to hear what you find out pal.

I've contacted Robert and awaiting a reply. This whole thing has me looking at my pewter button I found 15 feet from it. I believe it might be connected . I was looking at it upside down. It has a banners and flags on the bottom half with a sword or horn on the right side, along with a decorated raised edge.

Let's see that one too!
