Found a virgin site before the snow hit. Wasn't even sure it was a site because all the stones had been removed from the foundation. So gave a swing around it and out came a button.

Ended up digging 6 coppers, a British 62nd Regiment of Foot button, a sword pommel, 2 shoe buckles, 2 whizzers, and a whole lot of buttons. The 62nd Regiment served under General Burgoyne at the Battle of Saratoga in September 1777, where they surrendered and were POWs until 1782. The best coins were a 1723 Rosa Americana penny, a 1786 Connecticut Copper (Miller 4.1 variety?) with misaligned die & planchet flaws, and a counterstamped copper that's been worn smooth (has a Roman numeral 2 on it and was holed with a square nail). The rest are KGI and KGII coppers. Very thankful to have found this site.:icon_thumleft:

Awesome finds! Congratulations.

That site must have the perfect soil to preserve a Rosa. The ones I have dug have all been crumbling and appearing to be on the verge of disintegration. And great button - congrats!

Excellent digs! I especially like the 62nd Regiment button. :icon_thumleft:

We are all eating your dust...Dust eater! Congrats on some many wonderful finds. What a site! What a site. I hope that you find many more goodies!

Stay right there until you know you got everything. Looks like it’s going to give up a lot more goodies. Congrats on the saves.

Say DE,

I want to ask you if there are other similar depressions around the periphery of the hilltop? In military strategy you have the crest and also the strategic crest. The strategic crest is the position on the hillside that you can rise up to shoot from without sky lighting your profile (prevents casualties from headshots). To protect yourself from being flanked you have to have other units around the hilltop to provide overlapping fields of fire. Last ditch defense being an infantry square on the hilltop. Just a thought! You might poke around in other depressions around the hilltop!

Good luck!

No depressions at the top of the small hill, but a couple of the coins were up there, as well as some buttons. On the other side of the hill is a flat area which was probably used as a crop field, although it's a bit wet/flooded there with all the rain and snow we've had recently.

Incredible hunt. The two shoe buckles alone are pretty amazing. The square one looks like it could be pretty nice beneath the corrosion. Outstanding hunt there!
