I've lived next to this house for over 11 years and always wanted to hunt it. Since it was a rental there has been lots of renters over the years but I have never made friends with any of them... but finally my chance came this week... and I am glad I got that chance... now its has ended, I'll have to be happy with what I got.

This one has me a bit perplexed. It appears to be a CW corps badge, however the Maltese cross design is for either the 5th or the 19th Corps. However, the "2" is what has me stumped. The 2nd Corps badge is a shamrock, but the font of the numbers on your badge, and the one pictured here are almost identical.

After reading your post I took a closer look at the cross. It looks like the metal where the number is maybe a different color or tone. Since soldiers in the field would make do with what they had..mending broken items or reusing or re-purposing things. Is it possible that a badge from the 5th or 19th Corps was filled in with some metal then restamped with the number 2? Just a thought.

yeah I haven't decided what to do with them yet... I already have quite a few... 10 more really blocks the driveways now.

CW = Civil War. He thinks it's a Civil War era Corps Badge. These were produced for some units to help identify their troops and maybe instill a little pride in their unit. I am not an expert so I will defer to those that know. But it does look quite similar to the examples I have seen. Some may have been produced after the war for veteran's groups, as well.
