Place I'd recommend for any of you folks who want to get away from most everything. Northwest of Cortez Colorado but actually in Utah. I can't give you decent directions I just know how to drive there, so look it up. Desolate part of the country. Lots of sagebrush, some nice farms, lots of road signs with bullet holes, and you might only meet one or two vehicles on the whole drive after you head west from Pleasant View. Nice campground with very few campers. Good view of Sleeping Ute mountain east of the campground. Nice visitor center, excellent view of the night sky. RV sites but no hookups. Plenty of hiking available, and a trail leads from the campground around the ruins. You might need to be in fair shape for the hiking in some areas, due to the terrain. And yes one trail goes through that gap in the rocks in the first pic. Wider than it looks, about 15 inches. Great out of the way place and a good base camp to visit other ruins in the area.

Been there only once only for a day in the late 80s, left north out of Grand Canyon after camping, then to Monument Valley, on way north to Arches NP and Canyon Lands we stopped in Hovenweep NM, but
We camped in my van little further up road,
very close to Newspaper Rock in Utah.
