This is located in Canyon of the Ancients nw of Cortez Colorado in the middle of nowhere basically. Camped here by accident a few years back for one night and came back this time for three nights. These were built by the 'Ancestral Pueblans' (we don't say Anasazi anymore) about 1200 to 1300 AD. Speculation about what they were used for, habitation, granaries, observatories, etc. One of the coolest places I've camped, as I can check out other sites in the area. I got to see Holly, Hackberry, Horseshoe, Painted Hand, Sand Canyon, Domingo and Escalante sites and still only saw a small percentage of what's in the area.

I’ve never been out west to any of those ruins. I’d be bent over looking for arrowheads, I’m sure. Likely illegal but I know I couldn’t stop myself!

Me too ToddsPoint. Saw some flakes and potsherds, nothin outstanding, as I guess the area has pretty much been picked clean over the years. At Sand Canyon I saw some of those 'museum rocks' and I cleared them out. They stress 'Stay on the Trail' but I was off the trail some. I came up on a trail camera set up when I went up to a place that was probably a burial. Looked, took a pic, and waved at the camera. The 4 Corners area has been plagued with people out destroying sites, digging up burials, all in search of artifacts they can sell. No respect. Feds did a big raid down here some years back.

That’s horrible. I saw a picture someone snapped of four college age looking asshats in Arizona destroying petroglyphs the other day. Because of their clothing they believe they might be from Texas. The Sheriff’s Office is looking for them but sadly the damage is already done.
