Detector(s) used
Tesoro Tigershark
I have a Tigershark and am not sure if this is considered a good detector. I bought it used for $ 250.00 and wasn't sure if I got a good deal.

Will this detector find coins that are buried deep in dirt? I mostly only get a chance to hunt in parks and wondered if this detector can perform like the more expensive ones. Haven't used it in the water yet.

Any suggestions on what settings to use? Not sure if I totally have all the settings set correctly.

Any feedback would br great and appreciated.

Thanks !!

The Tigershark is a great detector for water hunting but if you want to hunt on land you should get a land detector like a Tesoro Tejon or any detectors made for land hunting. Keep the Tiger for water hunting and have a good year, The Victory Rider

The Tiger Shark is a very good detector and has a rep for being able to find thin gold chains, something many other detectors can not do. How deep is it???? With the standard coil it can respond to a dime at about 8 inches, but there are a lot of variables. Some report finding coins deeper, etc. It depends on your location.

Settings are once Ground Balanced, set mode in Fast Mode, Disc. very low like 1 or 2. Most disc out a pull tab at near 5, but then you will not hear 90% of the gold rings. Leave it in freshwater mode. There are 3 controls inside, Threshold Volume, Headphone Volume, and Sensitivity. Many turn up the Sensitivity and this makes the Tiger unstable. IT is set at the factory, so leave it alone.

Because it is a water detector it doesn't have a pinpoint mode. This means your time will be spent on your knees probably digging holes in the grass and get you thrown out of most parks. It is much better to get a real land detector which is lighter and pinpoints better. THe price you got the Tiger Shark is a good deal as it can still be repaird by Tesoro if it needs it. It is a fantastic detector in the water or at a beach. Lay some targets out on the ground and see where they drop out using different disc settings.

Good Luck,
Sandman

I used my TS all fall for land hunting. It did great in the trashy areas I was hunting and I dug a few barber dimes, indian head pennies and even a tiny canadian half-dime. Max depth of my finds was about six inches, which wouldn't compete with a real land hunter.

the TS is a great detector.a little better in the water but iv found many good coins on land with it....if you want your money back at that price i will take it,just let me know! DD

SusanMN,
Can I ask what you had your settings at when you found your coins?

Thanks,
CW

I hunted a very trashy lakeshore all fall, lots and lots of pull tabs and foil bits. Typically I set the TS discrimination between a 2 and a 3, but because of all of the junk, I was using a 5 setting. Still picked up plenty of nickles including a V nickle, as well as a couple of rings, 4 indian heads, the silver coins and couple of tokens. At the 5, I was still picking up old gold colored pull tabs but most of the newer ones dropped off.
