This goes out to some of the more seasoned vets out there. I have been detecting for a couple of years now and am hooked on the hobby. I read the posts here and I am very impressed by the vast knowledge by the gold, hero, etc. members here. Just wanted to get an idea on how they got educated in the hobby so I can improve my skills. Thanks-

There's no magic to it just listen to what the people who are making the good finds do and give it a try, research for places that had a lot of traffic or a significant event in the past and practice practice practice. Learn your machine to the fullest. If you do not know exactly what it's telling you then your missing the good stuff. When your just starting out or have a new machine dig targets that you can't identify and remember how they sound and act like. It's all about location and knowing your machine. Good luck!

Here is the secret to becoming a better metal detector:

Time on the headphones and experience in the field.

Learning tips from others is a good way. Watch some videos about detecting or users with the same machine as yours. Join a local club where there are experienced veterans who can answer your questions or put on a presentation/demonstration about proper techniques.

Thanks for the helpful info. I watch a lot of videos on youtube and check out this forum often for tips. Wasn't sure if there were any good books or websites that were good for improving your education. The more I learn about detecting, the more I enjoy the hobby. Thanks all!
