I don't hunt much anymore, but back in the day, I just tried to go in straight lines back and forth and then later I would hunt around trees. If I knew from maps where a structure had been, I would hunt that area first. Made some decent finds so I kept doing it.

Several modes,
one by gut-feeling;
two by logical use areas
three by grid, when all else fails - that helps
you get the feeling you've really explored it all.
Keeping track of your coverage is challenging.
I try to stay in activity areas, like structures,
pathways, old roads, established trails (on maps)
and "social trails", that get used and created by the users...!
All of the above, when obstacles present themselves, hit them too,
like fork in the tree; rock piles, boulder fields, swimmin' areas.
Places where folks disrobe and play ("activity area":laughing7:)
- the possibilities are endless, where you'll find your next goody...!

Agreed X2.

If you plan to hunt an area frequently used by the populace, use a smaller coil, as trash is usually more common. With the 11" DD standard on the LRP, you have a better chance in open ball parks, and even places off of the beaten path. If you find a nice (secret) clearing where you'd like to take a date for a picnic, chances are someone found it before you. Do some homework of where people used to gather 100 years ago which may look dilapidated today (or overgrown). Todays common areas aree probably hunted out and you'll be lucky to find the latest clad dropped. Any newly plowed land (for a new building) are great sites.
