How long do we have until the spill hits Florida West/East Coast beaches?

I found these pictures of the oil spill disaster in the Gulf of Mexico. It may be a matter of a few weeks before it starts reaching our beaches.

I dont think it's fair to totally blame BP for this accident.

If it wasnt for the demand for oil, from every one of us, then accidents like this would not happen.

If you drive a car to get to the beach to MD and you find an oil slick ruining everything, then look to yourself as part of the problem responsible for it.
If that is the case then you really have no right to complain.

Those big oil companies make billions every year. Not once did they cut me a check. Since just about every politician has their hand in the back pocket of these big oil companies, do you think that they are going to push any alternative fuel options soon? The more fuel we buy, the more money they make. What choice do we have when it comes to options? In the end, who do you really think is going to pay for the cleanup anyways? Like always, the hard working, tax paying american. We are not responsible, we are victims. If you invented a car that ran off of tap water, the big oil companies would pay you millions for the rights. If you refused to sell them the rights, how long do you think you would live?

The patent office is full of working inventions that are alt energy related.Our gov has them put away so that no one will ever get to use them.Why you ask?Its a national security deal.If there were free energy to use,the oil companies and the gov would go broke.

Oil eating microbes is the only way to get rid of the oil.And its better for all living creatures.Spray all the wetlands with it and the whole gulf.Booms and oil suckers are worthless and a waste of man power and costly too.Ban the dispersants that BP is putting into the gulf.It is poison!

That oil will hit the beaches sooner than anyone expected.

There is one thing I still do not understand. An oil rig such as the one that sank, never sank before in history. They are built to withstand hurricanes and extreme conditions. It was huge.

I've yet to see any photos of the sunk rig or mention of any investigation as to why it sank.

I believe that this oil rig was attacked, purposely sunk to destroy the US economy and in that respect that attack will do its job. This will be 9/11 times 10. Why did Obama announce he was sending SWAT teams to oil rigs in the Gulf?

Predictions......illegal aliens will be used to clean up the oil. That is why BP is not allowing interviews with clean up workers. Many cannot speak English.
There will be massive corruption in the clean up of the oil.
This will destroy businesses all along the Gulf Coast.
Oil will go up in price because of this terrorist attack. Gasoline will go up in price despite a drop in demand. Obama will get his taxes on oil passed.
Many will cancel plans to vacation in Florida and all along the Gulf Coast.
It will impact metal detecting....less vacationers means less rings and jewelry lost.
Because of that, water detector sales will plummet.
The effects of this oil disaster will last for decades.

Ok...first.....There are reports that Illegal aliens are being used to clean up the oil because they cannot sue in court for health issues.

Second....Already BP is coming under scrutiny for hiring illegal aliens to clean up the oil....they are trying to prevent news reporters from talking to clean up crews.....massive corruption ......plus profiteering from companies that have oil clean up technologies is being reported.

Third.....Business owners along the Gulf are reporting a huge drop in business...especially the businesses involved in the tourist trade.

Fourth...there have been reports of a North Korean vessel with a deep diving mini sub that left Havanna harbor just a day before the oil rig sank. That ship then made some strange maneuvers that took it out of the common shipping channels. North Korea has been at war with South Korea since the 50's and TransOcean, the owner of the rig, has heavy investment in it by South Korea. South Korean company Hyundia built the Deepwater Horizon oil rig that sank.

Fifth......Insiders to the oil industry state that if or when Obama shuts down all drilling rigs in the Gulf, gasoline will go to 6 to 8 Dollars a gallon. And that will be soon according to insiders.

Sixth....Tampa has come up with plans for mass evacuations of the city due to this oil volcano. Other cities along the gulf are also making plans to evacuate due to extreme levels of Benzene, hydrogen sulfide gas and methylene chloride gas which are byproducts of oil breakdown. Because of this oil problem, Florida has already seen a drop in vacation lodging. Hotels and motels are reporting less reservations as compared to last year which was dismal already due to the economy and cold weather.

Seventh....maybe the beaches are busy now...but when the oil hits shore.......you won't see anyone at the beach.......and they even shut down some of the beaches in Louisiana already. When nobody is at the beaches, no rings and bling get lost. Detector sales will be impacted.

What is going on right now in the Gulf is bad enough just pray this tropical season be a mild one because what BP is saying now is its going to take months to come up with a solution to stop the leaks ,this year El Niño has shut down in the past few years when El Niño has been active it creates wind shear upper wind currants that travel from west to east which tears up any tropical formation in the Gulf and Caribbean region and you have fewer Hurricanes developing ,the last time the ocean water temps dropped 3 to 4 degrees in the Pacific off the West coast of South America was the year of Hurricane Katrina and 5 other named hurricanes in the Gulf ,should a similar event take place this season ? well the thought makes me cringe !! just hope Mother Nature be kind this year . In time the Gulf stream could carry the oil along the East coast. Dd60

If we need a clearer message that we have got to find some viable fuel source other than oil, I can't imagine what it is.

I'm just waiting for that black cloud to make its way up our east coast.

In the meantime, mandating a car that gets 40 mph would seem like a really good idea instead of just the usual huffing and puffing on Capitol Hill.

BP has made a "giant" oil discovery in the Gulf of Mexico after drilling the deepest known oil well in the world. By Rowena Mason

The prospect, named Tiber, is believed to contain more than 3bn barrels of oil – making it a greater find than BP's Kaskida field in the region three years ago.

Sources close to BP said that within the next 10 to 15 years the Tiber and Kaskida finds could increase production by 50pc in the Gulf of Mexico.
Transocean, the US offshore rig company, said the Tiber well drilled more than 35,055 feet (10,685m) into the Earth about 250 miles south-east of Houston, Texas, was the deepest known well in the world.

BP currently produces 400,000 barrels per day from the Gulf of Mexico.

The area is particularly important to the Western oil majors because it is more accessible than fields in the Middle East or Russia.

BP has a 62pc majority stake in the Tiber block, while Petrobras, the state-owned Brazilian oil company, owns 20pc and US rival ConocoPhillips owns 18pc.

"Tiber represents BP's second material discovery in the emerging Lower Tertiary play in the Gulf of Mexico, following our earlier Kaskida discovery," said Andy Inglis, BP chief executive for exploration and production.

"These material discoveries, together with our industry-leading acreage position, support the continuing growth of our deepwater Gulf of Mexico business into the second half of the next decade."

A BP spokesman said that more tests would be needed to see how much oil was in the prospect and how much might be recoverable.

Shares in BP closed up 4.3pc at 541.65p, making it the biggest riser in the FTSE 100 index on Wednesday.

BP's find comes as the energy industry this week celebrates 150 years since crude oil was first recovered from a drilled well.
