How many VETS have spent Christmas away from home.

Thanks Loco-Digger, can you guess what day is my birthday?

Hey guys, it's coming that time again.

Bob Hope Christmas

Many blessings to those who are in service today, who will not be with their loved ones. May they be safe, and may all their Christmases be white.

Christmas 2006, 2007 & 2009 in Iraq.

Christmas 2011 - Afghanistan.

The only 'white' Christmas mornings i have ever had in my life were in the Middle East.

Christmas Day, Iraq 2007 I got to see flurries.

Christmas Day 2011 in western Afghanistan was straight up miserable.

If I had my way I'd never see temperatures below 95 degrees again.

Christmas of 90 during Desert Shield.
During Thanksgiving they trucked us to battalion and President Bush and his security teams flew in on choppers and ate with us. We got some cool pics and he made a speech. A day to remember for a 19 yr old kid.

To our men and women serving this year away from home on Christmas...

Glad to see this thread is still going. I've spent my fair share of times deployed during Christmas myself.
- Osan (Korea) 2002
- BIAP (Baghdad International Airport) 2004
- Al Udeid (Qatar) 2011

Two other times I made it back to the states just a few days before Christmas.
- Guantanamo Bay (Cuba) 1994
- Khobar Towers & Eskan Village (Saudi Arabia) 1996

Although it can be tough being away from home & family during this time, the friends you make throughout your military career will stay with you forever. Serving in the US Air Force for a little over 23 years has been one of my most memorable events in life. For the most part I loved it and as the years go by, I'm missing it more & more. :icon_thumright:

Salute.

Merry Christmas... and thank you for your service.

Missed Christmas 1997 while deployed to Bosnia.

USMC, 1983-1993, away for every Christmas. But I was with the people I loved anyway. No regrets.

Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year deployed to Adak, Alaska 1974. Christmas in Misawa, Japan 1976.
