I can't seem to find any specific info on how much gold were they actually finding in virgin placer deposits back then, only vague descriptions about how they found lots of flakes and nuggets just using gold pans, not even using rocker boxes or sluices. Were they getting over 1 ounce a day? And how much was gold actually worth back then, compared to today which is around $1300 an ounce?

I’m sure this has been said, but if you have a sluice box that is only recovering 15% of the gold by weight, you need to get out of gold mining!! Also please remember that gold character changes dramatically from place to place. Fortunately not all gold deposits consist of flour gold and black sands.

Although AI says gold was set at $20.67 in 1850 for coinage, I recall reading that the actual trading price hung around $18/troy ounce for many years during the early gold rush. That likely didn’t account for purity. Pour your gold on the scale and get $18/oz

I met an ex CHP in California He patrolled Placerville area Highway 49 that had a part of the road that was there since forever crossing a ravine it was old the stagecoach road so they never mined it. in 1980's really heavy rains washed it out he was first on scene I believe he said he picked up a coffee can full of nuggets big enough to see visibly. So I suppose the virgin umined areas had LOTS of gold. If anyone knows of Malikoff Diggins Park in Nevada County when they hydraulic mined it their cleanout was 500 LBs per month.

Yeah it will have to go to 20k or more when the brics drops the gauntlet.
The us dollar is losing it's reserve status more everyday and it won't go on forever. History proves that and there's nothing special about it.
